SC16 Applications

The SC16 is used extensively for recording strain gauge and other signals from vehicles or their components in the automotive industry, etc during product development and testing. Its rapid configuration for a particular test, using highly electronically configurable plug-in conditioners is a real asset and re-configuration as test results emerge is simple.

Individual conditioners offer great flexibility under software control to facilitate extracting and monitoring the signals. In most cases, only the sensor is required. Conditioner changes and type are sensed automatically by the SC16 and passed to the Windows based setup software. Custom conditioners can be designed & shipped in a few days.

It is designed for both laboratory and field use, either as a self-contained system with A/D and disk storage or using a PC. Where more channels are required, multiple SC16s can be operated together. The setup software supports up to 256 channels.

In the laboratory, it might be connected to a component or vehicle on a test rig with a desktop PC and associated systems. Automated tests can be performed via batch or other software, which can re-configure the SC16 in a matter of seconds for unattended operation.

In the field, the system can be placed almost anywhere due to its small size, low power consumption and the absence of fans and can be powered from 12 & 24V.

Measurement might include;

• Stresses in suspension, steering, exhaust components on a rolling road, shaker, test track or field trials
• Measuring sound or vibration from panels, suspension, steering, engine components, etc
• Pressure, stress, strain and movement, etc in hydraulic systems
• Monitoring rpm, voltage, current, temperature, load, etc on generators or alternators
• Component failure testing
